Lindsay Barrie began to show an interest in home design at the young age of 4 when climbing a ladder outside his family home to take an inquisitive look at the home extension being built at the time. He pursued his passion though college, then moving on to start his first business MLDG in 2011. With a focus on a friendly down-to-earth and heart-felt customer connections and a high standard to improving the Brisbane building landscape.

"We stand for improving and making every single thing we touch the best it can be. We offer a wide variation of unique design concepts, from adding a modern twist to existing traditional Queenslander homes to large scale retail centres.

The very first client MLDG had, wanted to undertake a full renovation of his house, to really build a place for his young family. Together we were able to take a rundown tired house and turn it in to a home. To this day we are still in regular contact with this client and can even be caught having the occasional drink together on a Friday afternoon. "

We do it for the love of it. There is a sense of pride and joy in bringing together people’s ideas and putting them to paper.

About Building Designers

Whether you are planning a new building, an extension or renovation to and existing build or just raising you house, a building designer can design your project.

A building designer will work with you to enhance your lifestyle or to create an efficient workplace without sacrificing the building's visual appeal or exceeding your budget.

Your building designer will work hard to determine the most cost effective, user friendly and practical solutions that not only look good but also meet your requirements.

As a building designer, we are often asked, "What's the difference between a building designer and an architect?" In Queensland there is no difference in the work that can be done by a building designer as opposed to an architect.

There are some differences in education and regulation between the professions but these make little difference to their work output.

A building designer must be licensed by the Queensland Building Services Authority at a level suitable for the type of work to be undertaken.

For design and/or documentation you should only contract with a QBCC licensed building designer or a Board Registered architect or engineer. It’s your choice.

Others who offer to do design or documentation work are working illegally and this may jeopardise the chance of your project gaining the required approvals.

As the name suggests, a building designer designs buildings which can range from a family home to a multi-storey commercial complex.

QBCC licensed building designers are recognised by the Queensland Government as professionals in this field.

As part of the Queensland Government's program to protect consumers in the construction industry, building designers are licensed by the Queensland Building & Construction Commission (QBCC).

Depending on their experience and licence classification, building designers can assist with the following:

  • Commercial
  • Industrial
  • Restoration
  • Residential
  • Renovation
  • Extension Work
  • Unit Development
  • In fact, any type of building project

Building designers can design you a building that is energy efficient and comfortable, provides value for money and is suitable for your specific needs. The design will take into account your lifestyle, budget, site conditions, potential resale and long term maintenance costs.

Your building designer not only designs your building but also can work with a team of other professionals to ensure that structural elements and other specialist matters combine with the aesthetics to produce a building which will look good but also will serve you well for years to come.

Your building designer will prepare your working drawings and can assemble all the other documents required for the necessary approvals and construction.

Your building designer can provide advice and assistance on town planning or other regulations relevant to your project. Some building designers will manage all your required approvals.

When engaging your building designer, you should always request a written contract which clearly explains the scope of work for your particular project.
